Santa Barbara Infrared manufactures a wide variety of standard and custom target wheels, to conveniently and accurately position multiple targets in front of a blackbody source.

The SBIR 300 Series Target Wheels are specifically designed to be used with SBIR’s standard differential blackbody sources. These motorized target wheels are available in several standard models to accomodate different sizes and numbers of targets. SBIR’s microprocessor controlled target wheel/blackbody systems support manual or automated FLIR tests such as MRT, MDT, MTF, and NEDT.

SBIR has designed custom target wheels for many diverse applications. These target wheels are incorporated into both military and commercial systems to meet the varied requirements of laboratory, depot and field environments. Many major programs depend upon the unsurpassed quality of SBIR’s custom target wheel/blackbody systems.

SBIR target wheels integrate with our complete line of differential blackbodies, target alignment lights and collimators to create a variety of turnkey IR target projector systems.


F E A T U R E S

The 300 Series Target Wheels integrate with the 2000 Series Blackbodies to quickly and precisely position IR targets for accurate differential temperature generation. Wheel position is controlled from the front panel of the blackbody controller, or via its optional IEEE-488 interface. A turnkey IR target projector is created by combining the 300 Series Target Wheels and SBIR Blackbodies with the STC Series Collimators.

Rugged Accurate Design
Advanced mechanical design, incorporating a zero-backlash detent mechanism, results in the exceptional target repeatability of better than .001". Unlike direct drive wheels, which require continuous power to the motor and generate excess heat, no holding torque is necessary to maintain target position. This rugged yet simple design achieves both high performance and high reliability.

Illuminator
A convenient visible alignment light can be mounted between the blackbody and the target wheel. The lamp can be moved into and out of the optical path to backlight the target. The alignment light is a useful tool for collimator setup, providing a visible source for alignment and focus checking. It also allows the user to perform IR to visible boresight testing with uncompromised accuracy, as the target is stationary during IR to visible source transition. The illuminator position is controlled from the front panel of the blackbody controller or via its IEEE 488 interface.

Thermal Stability
Target wheel designs incorporate shielding, baffling and high thermal mass to acheive maximum thermal stability and uniformity. Wheel temperature is displayed on the front panel of the blackbody controller, with resolution selectable as .01 or .0010C.

Targets
SBIR manufactures a complete line of reflective and emissive targets for FLIR testing. Targets include 4-bars, windows, cross targets, slits and many more. Targets can be manuallly rotated to perform vertical or horizontal testing. Target alignment reference features are located at 0°, 45°, and 90°. Target orientation with respect to the unit under test can be fine-tuned to eliminate edge aliasing. See the SBIR Target data sheet for target details.

C U S T O M  T A R G E T  W H E E L S

SBIR designs and manufactures a wide variety of custom Target Wheel/Source assemblies to meet specific customer requirements:

  Rugged militarized design to withstand severe shock and vibration environment on the Navy CASS program. System incorporates MIL-T-28800 packaging of target wheel, blackbody and electronics.
  Standard target wheel assemblies are easily customized to meet specific customer requirements. Features such as special mounts, quick-change adaptors and target motion can be provided.

 

  Quick change target cassette for the Martin Marietta GPEOTS System. IR, Visible, and Laser cassettes were supplied for the LANTIRN Depot Repair Program.

 

  Militarized, manually operated wheel designed for LANTIRN Ground Support Equipment. Small, light weight packages can be supplied‹ideal for both I-level and O-level test sets.
  Wheel/Blackbody assemblies can be integrated with custom choppers, visible sources, lasers, and other necessary equipment to create full-spectrum E-O test assemblies.

SBIR 300 Series Target Wheels are specified by model number. Blackbody model and options should be specified at time of order, so that the appropriate adapters and mounting hardware can be supplied.
