Infinity DDB Series Blackbody PicOverview:

SBIR's Infinity Dual Differential Blackbody Systems (DDB Series) are designed for applications requiring the precision and versatility provided by two separate blackbodies. Two-point correction of infrared detectors, radiometric calibration of IR target projectors and simulators, and high precision system-level testing all use dual sources to improve accuracy and reduce test time. The temperature control circuitry of the two blackbodies is shared, eliminating the bulk and expense of two controllers, and greatly improving the accuracy of the differential temperature control.

The temperature controller allows the absolute temperature of both blackbodies to be controlled independently. Alternately, the temperature of source 2 can be controlled with respect to source 1. Another key feature is the new iProbe from SBIR. This intelligent temperature sensor is calibrated independently of the blackbody system. To re-calibrate the system you need only exchange the probe with a recently calibrated one. No special equipment is required thus minimizing downtime

These instruments are built using the same architecture as SBIR's DB Series Blackbodies, and thus exhibit the superior accuracy, stability, and ease of use as SBIR's other Infinity systems.

These dual blackbodies integrate easily with SBIR's reflective-target collimators and target wheels to create turnkey IR target projectors.

Features:
  • Emissivity

    A surface treatment is used to create a spectrally flat emissivity of > 0.970 (3µm to 5.5µm), > 0.950 (8µm to 14µm).
  • i-probeIntelli-Probe (iProbe)

The iProbe is an intelligent temperature sensor that is calibrated independently of the blackbody system. To re-calibrate the system you need only exchange the probe with a recently calibrated one.  No special equipment is required and there is no down time in the test area.
  • Uniformity

The Infinity blackbody incorporates design and construction features that maximize spatial uniformity and minimize convection influences resulting in typical surface uniformity of > 98% of set absolute temperature less ambient temperature over 90% of the emitting surface area.
  • Milli-Kelvin Temperature Stability

SBIR has developed unique temperature measurement and analog-to-digital conversion circuitry with integrated control logic that results in extremely responsive temperature control. True set point and accurate milli-kelvin control have been achieved allowing for precision testing at contrast levels of 1 milli-kelvin.
  • Accuracy
Ultra-stable, highly responsive iProbes are used to provide very precise control and accurate system performance. The temperature sensors used in the Infinity Series are calibrated to an accuracy of under 0.010ºC.
  • Multi-Function Controller

The controller features a touch screen display and supports remote computer control over Ethernet or RS-232. The controllers are also available with an optional IEEE 488 Interface.

The controller will also operate all of the SBIR peripherals: target wheels, visible illuminators, pulsed laser diodes, range slides, source slides and filter wheels.
    Controller
  • Automatic Radiometric Compensation

Attenuation caused by optics, differences in emissivity, ambient temperature change, and waveband of interest result in system output that is not radiometrically correct. When operating the controller in the radiometric mode, compensation for these factors is automatically applied, adjusting the blackbody as required to maintain the proper system output.
  • IRWindows™ Advanced EO Test and Analysis Tool

The Infinity Series is also optimized for seamless integration with the SBIR IRWindows™ test system. IRWindows™ is an advanced software tool that automates the setup, execution, data collection and results analysis for industry standard performance testing of infrared, visible and laser sensor systems.
  • Configurations

The Infinity Dual Differential Blackbody systems include a single temperature controller (19” rack mount or desktop configuration), two blackbody heads, interconnect cables, power cables and manual. The blackbody heads are available with emitting surface sizes including 4”, 6” and 8” squares. Standard and optional temperature ranges can be viewed in the Specifications section.

Infinity DDB Series Blackbody PicOptions:
  • IEEE Std. 488 Interface (GPIB)
The thorough implementation of the ANSI/IEEE Std. 488.1-1987 allows for computer control of all blackbody, calibration, illuminator, and target wheel functions.

  • Radiometric Differential Temperature
Differential temperature errors due to optical attenuation or emissivity differences can be corrected with this feature.

  • Illuminator
A visible alignment light moves into and out of the optical path to backlight the target. The illuminator position is controlled from the front panel or via the computer interface options. Light level luminance is preconfigured and adjustable at 10 various intensity set points. This feature is very useful for visible alignment of the system. IR-to-visible boresight tests can be made with uncompromised accuracy because the target is stationary during IR to visible transition.

  • Targets
Many standard and custom infrared targets are available. These targets can be supplied with either emissive or reflective coatings. See the Target section for details.

  • Target Wheels
Multiple targets can be rapidly and precisely positioned in front of the blackbody. Target position can be set from the front panel of the controller or via the optional computer interface. For details on the full line of target wheels see SBIR’s Target Wheel section.

  • Rack Mounting
The blackbody controller is designed for bench-top or standard 19 inch rack use. Rack mounting ears come standard with the instrument. A rack slide kit is also available.

  • High Precision FLIR Testing
When combining SBIR’s Infinity DDB Series with our Reflective-Target Collimators, users can easily perform system-level tests such as MRTD at selectable background temperatures. With this system, both the background and target temperatures are controllable.

  • Radiometric Calibration
A dual blackbody source is an ideal reference standard for radiometric calibration of IR target projectors and simulators. The dual blackbodies establish a known differential radiance allowing a transfer radiometer to measure the effective radiant output of the target projector.
